Students often are not prepared to effectively evaluate all of the choices available for colleges or majors. Additionally, parents are not sure what to do to help. Most students will tell you that they struggle with determining what major would be the best fit for them.
The negative consequences of not taking the time to equip students to choose the right college or major are significant:
- Delay in graduation. Students change their major in an effort to search for something that ignites their interest.
- Poor academic performance as a result of disinterest in the subject matter
- Lower retention rates at colleges
- Increased tuition costs
- Negative behavioral changes, such as apathy and unusual social issues
